Famous comedian Jerry Seinfeld, is a devote follower of TM (Transcendental Meditation) for over 40 years. It kept him going for 9 straight years, writing, directing and acting the famous Seinfeld chronicles.
I am not a comedian myself, but I do try to be happy as often as I can; at the same time trying to make people around me enjoy peace and harmony. Meditation itself works differently for people. Some cure illnesses, some become happier, some become focused / energised and to some, all of the benefits. Its a skill that anyone can learn and pace their understanding.
For me, meditation every morning, afternoon and evening for 20mins each works well. I try to do it everyday depending if the situation permits. To me, evening meditation helps most as it gives me a fuller, deeper sleep.
In summary, meditation has increased my focus, keeping things simple. In the past, I would have millions of things on my mind every minute. I believe the greatest achievement meditation has done for me is the clarity of thought. It drops all the worries, picks them up individually and sweeps them away into the abyss. Its the minds way of breaking things down and dealing with them.
Don’t worry about it being classed as religion. It is not a form of Buddhism (although most buddhists do practise it), nor Taoism, nor Confucius. It can be done by anyone. To end off, here is a video of flow and results of meditation.
Meditation Primer
To get started, turn off all possible distractions, such as mobile-phones, laptops, tv, radio. Get in a comfortable a seated posture. If you have people constantly moving in an out of the area, try to change your location; or politely ask for some personal space for around 20 minutes.
Close your eyes, but not tightly. Listen to the breeze, then slowly listen to your heart beat. Listen to your random thoughts. And cycle between them. Give it time…. then focus on your breath. In … one second, out… one second … in and out… . That is it. At a certain point, you will feel that all is impermanence and everything is not that very important anymore. Life is just a breath. an ebb and flow; like the tides against the shore. The magic of meditation is the purity of nothingness. Let go and be free. Don’ t worry.
